For epileptic children, institutional treatment has been provided as
follows:—
At Lingfield Home and School, 1 boy and 2 girls.
Before reaching the age of 16 years, all children in Institutions are
examined to determine whether, after reaching that age, further supervision
will be necessary, in which case the County Authority is notified.
Annual visits are paid by your School Medical Officer to all Institutions
where Tottenham children are resident under your Committee's
scheme, and reports are furnished to your Committee.
In all other respects the arrangements for defective children are the
same as last year.
(b) Statement of the arrangements made for the supervision of mentally
defective children not in Special Schools:—
An Occupation Centre has been established by the Central Association
for Mental Welfare and provides accommodation for 30 Tottenham
children. Medical inspection and treatment are carried out by arrangement
with the County Authority.
The School for the Deaf.
The report of Miss Beckinysale (Head Teacher) is as follows:—
The School for the Deaf serves the areas of Tottenham, Edmonton,
Wood Green and Enfield. By arrangement children may be accepted
from other districts and county authorities. The Edmonton, Wood
Green and Enfield Authorities provide guides for the groups of pupils
attending the school from their respective districts. Scholars from
Hornsey and certain younger Tottenham children are conveyed by
ambulance. Pupils from Middlesex, Hertfordshire and Essex and the
majority of the boys and girls living in Tottenham travel independently.
The pupils remain at school during the mid-day interval. A twocourse
hot dinner is prepared on the premises, and is supplied for the
sum of 3d. daily. A few scholars bring their own cold meal, which may
be supplemented by hot cocoa, and necessitous scholars are given the
school dinner free of charge.
