Table (E) shows the amount of defect in hearing power found in
children over 7 years of age before treatment, and the results of treatment.
This is shown more strikingly when expressed in graphs. (See
graph CC).
Special cases, who have been referred from the Clinic and other
sources have been tested in addition. The youngest child to be tested
successfully was aged 3 years. He had suppuration in both ears following
diphtheria. Unfortunately he was not tested before treatment commenced,
but after treatment, and when his ears were dry there was
found to be no hearing loss.
Infants found to have some hearing loss have been referred for
examination and necessary treatment at the Aural Clinic. Although a
considerable number of children have been dealt with in this manner,
there is not yet a sufficient bulk of data for preparing graphs similar
to those referring to older children.
