Health Department,
Town Hall,
Tottenham.
May, 1935.
To The Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Borough of Tottenham.
Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen.,
Circular 1417 of the Ministry of Health, dated 25th October, 1934,
requests the Council to direct that the Annual Report of the Medical
Officer of Health be drawn up on lines indicated therein.
The requirements of the Ministry will be strictly observed in this
report, which is an ordinary or general report, and not a survey or
exhaustive report, such as is required at five-yearly intervals.
It will be noted that the department is actively engaged in the matter
of housing adequately the population of the district.
The five year plan of tackling the housing problem, suggested by
the Housing Act of 1930, is being proceeded with. There have been
three local enquiries by the Minister of Health's representatives, namely
on February 7th, 1933, January 23rd, 1934, and November 13th, 1934,
and preparation is well advanced for the fourth, which, it is expected,
will be held in the latter half of 1935.
The routine work of the year is, as far as practicable, expressed in
statistical form.
I take this opportunity of thanking the Council for their kindness
to me during my absence from duty on account of illness in the
early part of the year, my colleagues for their valued co-operation, and
my assistants and staff for their loyalty and devotion to duty.
I am, Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
