A day centre for such children would help to relieve the mothers considerably, enabling
them to do their housework or shopping unhindered. Whether such a project would be feasible
would depend largely upon the number of parents who would wish to use the day centre for the
care of their children.
Convalescence from Mental Illness.
One patient, a woman of 49 years, attending a Psychiatric Out-patient Clinic had a
period of convalescence under the Council's recuperative holiday scheme.
Lunacy and Mental Treatment Acts,l890-1930.
Work undertaken by the Duly Authorised Officers.
The arrangements for obtaining the services of the Duly Authorised Officers remained
unchanged during the year. A twenty-four hour rota system was in operation and calls for
their services after office hours continued to be made through Ambulance Control.
During the year, the Duly Authorised Officers carried out the following work and visits
in connection with these Acts:-

1. Calls received in connection with mental illness numbered 272 and were from:-

(a) General Practitioners149

(e) Other Agencies (police, relatives, etc.)60

The total number of visits made to these cases was 554.
