lowest rate—10.6—occurred in 1923. Since the war years there
has been no marked fluctuation. It should be noted that the rate
for 1918 was very little below the highest death rate recorded in
the period of this investigation. This high rate was due to the
influenza epidemic. The death rates for males have been consistently
higher than the corresponding rates for females. These
tables show that the death rates compare very favourably with
those for London and for the country as a whole.
