MARRIAGES.
Owing to the fact that the registration areas are not coterminous
with the area of the county borough, data regarding the
number of marriages solemnised in the county borough area are
not available until the year 1936. In that year the number of
marriages which took place in the county borough area was 2,857,
which gives a marriage rate of 21.5 per 1,000 of the population, as
compared with a rate of 21.5 for the administrative county of
London, and a rate of 17.4 for the whole of England and Wales.
The marriage rate for West Ham for 1937 was 22.3 per 1,000
of the population.
