Re-housing.
With a density of 61 people to the acre it must be borne well
in mind that spaces must be preserved in various areas of the
Borough for recreation and to act as lungs for the town. More
particularly is this needed, now that the district is being built
round so extensively on those borders which were until a few
years ago within a short distance of open country.
In connection with the slum clearance scheme, the following
table will shew the Council's programme for re-housing the persons
displaced:— Number of houses and type Houses
Site 2 bedrooms 3 bedrooms 4 bedrooms completed
Churchill Road 12 60 8
Argyle Road 8 1,1 2 21
Gainsborough Road 8 28 4
28 99 14 21
Of the 141 houses shewn in the above table it will be noted that
only 21 have been completed, and these are about to be occupied,
at the time of writing. The remainder arc in various stages of
erection.
The Council also has two other sites at Samson Street and
Greengate Street. These are at present undeveloped, but it is
proposed to erect 86 houses as shewn in the table hereunder:—
