In July 1967 Pierre the Clown visited the Borough to talk to
about 5,000 young children on the care of their teeth. His visit
was sponsored by the General Dental Council and the Fruit Producers
Council and after hip visit to the school each child received a
certificate entitling them to join the Apple Club, together with a
badge, a free apple and a painting sheet. The children thoroughly enjoyed
his visit and it was pleasing to note how many were able to give correct
answers to his questions on the care of the teeth.
Talks on the care of the teeth were incorporated into the
general health education programme. All children are encouraged to
make regular visits to their dentists, but the opportunity for a
personal approach at the chairside by dental officers at routine
dental inspection still plays a most important part in dental health
education.
