As mentioned in the introduction there were no
epidemics of serious infectious disease during the year. Two cases
of paratyphoid fever were notified. The source of infection in one
case was almost certainly in France while the other was not identified.
Both cases were kept under observation until such time as they were
bacteriologically free from infection.
The cases notified as food poisoning in the table
were of the salmonella type and none were associated with an outbreak
of food poisoning in the epidemic sense.
Two of the cases of tuberculosis were notified posthumously.
In both cases the families were investigated, no other cases being
discovered.
