Slaughtering, No animals were slaughtered during the year
in the one licenced Slaughterhouse In the district
Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933 TWO licences to act as
slaughterman were granted In 1952
Bakehouses, There are twenty-three bakehouses In the
Borough and of these twenty two are provided with mechanical
power In the majority of cases the standard of cleanliness and
sanitary condition Is generally good
Forty-two visits of Inspection were made In 1952 and the
fifteen Infringements discovered were rectified
Shops Act, 1950 (Section 38) Five hundred and eighty-three
visits were made to various premises under the Shops Act and
resulted In the discovery of eighteen Infringements
The arrangements made for the health and comfort of the
shop workers are generally satisfactory
Schools The sanitary condition and the water supply to
schools In the area are generally satisfactory
Hairdressers and Barbers Premises Seventy-eight Inspections
were made to the sixty-nine establishments In the Borough under
the Hairdressers and Barbers Byelaws 1947 which resulted In the
discovery of five Infringements only
Merchandise Marks Acts One hundred and forty visits were
made to food premises under the above Acts The eight Infringements
observed were mainly in connection with the marking of
Imported apples and tomatoes
Rag Flock and Other Filling Materials Acts 1951 An Act to
secure the use of clean filling materials In upholstered articles
and other articles which are stuffed or lined and for purposes
connected therewith came into force on 1st November, 1951
The Act provides that certain premises have to be registered
by the Local Authority on payment of a registration fee and
certain other premises have to be licenced by the Local Authority
to store rag flock on payment of the statutory fee
During 1952 twelve applications for registration and four
for licences were received and granted
