B. Sewers Treatment.
(1). Second Maintenance Treatment (1948-1949) (Completed
March, 1949).
The second maintenance treatment of sewers found to be
infested during the 10% test baiting carried out in July, 1948,
has been satisfactorily carried out. Pre-baiting with damped
bread crumbs was done on two consecutive days and the
same bait base with 10% Arsenious Oxide added was laid on
the third day with the following results
Borough divided into 5 sections Number of manholes pre-baited Unpoisoned pre-baits laid Number of manholes poison baited
Complete bait takes Partial bait takes Baits not taken
A.B.C.D.E. 119 9 1 109 15
These figures show a 50% improvement on the first maintenance
treatment, which produced 16 complete and 4 partial
pre-bait takes.
(2). 10% Test Baiting (1949-1950) (Completed July, 1949).
As previously, the Borough was divided into five sections,
and a test baiting of 10% of the soil sewer manholes carried
out in relation to previously recorded surface infestations.
The test revealed there is little evidence to support any connection
between surface and sewer infestations. Results as
follows:—
Borough divided into 5 sections Number manholes baited Complete bait takes Partial bait takes Baits not taken
A.B.C.D.E. 201 35 9 157
The number of complete and partial bait takes is higher
than in the 1948 10% test. Increase found to be in Sections
D and E.
