851.Lung Syrup. (Informal)Sample contained artificial syrup.The analysis result of this sample was received on 30th December, 1947. It is not yet poss-ible to give a final result as negotiations with the firm concerned are still in progress.

During 1947 it was again possible to maintain a satisfactory
numerical standard, of sampling over a wide variety of commodities.
Of the total samples 5.90% were found to be other than
genuine, a very gratifying feature of the year's sampling. This
percentage figure excludes informal samples repeated formally.
Two successful prosecutions were instituted.
MILK SUPPLY.
There are 12 dairymen and 13 retail purveyors of milk in
the district. Two persons whose premises are outside the district
are also registered as retail purveyors. Routineinspection of
premises has again revealed that the provisions of the Milk and
Dairies Order, 1926, have boon generally well observed.

The following Licences to sell graded milks were granted in 1947:-

114 samples of milk were submitted for bacteriological
examination as below:-
