The Methylene Blue (Reductase) Test was satisfactory
in all hut three of the 41 samples. In these three cases
1 sample of Tuberculin Tested Milk was decolorized at the
end of 5 hours; 1 Tuberculin Tested (Pasteurised) Milk at
the end of 15 minutes and 1 Pasteurised Milk at the end of
10 miniites.
ICS CREAM.
At the end of 1945 106 premises had been registered in
accordance with Section 14 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938,
On ten of these premises ice cream could be manufactured.
Although the war-time ban on the manufacture, and sale
of ice-cream was lifted for the 1945 Season there was no
return to the same level of sale as obtained in the pre-war
period.
MEAT AND OTHER FOODS.
The 53 butchers' shop3 within the Borough have been
inspected and observation kept upon the vehicles used for the
conveyance of meat, with the result that it has been found that
the provisions of the Public Health (Meat) Regulations have
been generally well observed. Necessary action was taken in
20 cases where sanitary conditions were not satisfactory,.or
certain contraventions of the Public Health (Meat) Regulations
1924 existed.
At the end of 1945 54 premises had been registered in
accordance with Section 14 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938.
The majority of the registered premises are concerned with
the manufacture of sausages only. Seventy-four cases of
insanitary or defective conditions in food shops, other than
butchers' shops, were dealt with.
There is one licensed slaughter-house in the district.
The only animals slaughtered during the year have been
23 pigs from pig clubs slaughtered under licences issued by
17.
