No prosecutions were instituted during the year.
In the case of adulterated samples warnings were
given to the vendors, with the result that the orange
juice and fruit preserving tablets were withdrawn from
sale.
The margarine samples are reported as adulterated,
but nevertheless they conformed to the Margarine
(Addition of Borax) Order, 1940.
The lemon substitutes reported as adulterated constituted
offences under Section 6 (misleading labels).
The position as to these and other substitutes has now
been clarified by the Food Substitutes (Control) Order,
1941, under which food substitutes may be manufactured
and sold only under Ministry of Food licence.
Milk Supply.
There are 16 dairymen and 54 retail purveyors of
milk in the district. Eight persons whose premises
are outside the district are also registered as retail
purveyors. Routine inspection of premises has again
revealed that the provisions of the Milk and Dairies
Order, 1926, have been generally well observed.
The following Licences to sell graded milks were granted in 1941 :-
