SCHOOL HYGIENE
Under Section 54 of the Education Act, health and cleanliness surveys are undertaken by the School
Nurse. Regular inspections of the children are made in school, and talks, films and film strips are used to
encourage an interest in personal hygiene and appearance.
A cleansing service is provided at the Stonebridge Health Clinic for the treatment of scabies and for
disinfestation.

WORK OF THE HEALTH VISITOR AND SCHOOL NURSE
The Health Visitor and School Nurse is concerned especially in maintaining good health amongst
school children. This is done by carrying out routine health surveys, preparing for and assisting the School
Medical Officers with medical inspections. Contact is made with Heads of Schools and a link with the
families and homes of the pupils is fostered.
The Health Visitors special skill of health teaching is offered to all schools and many members of staff
participate in health programmes.
