During the year 18 cases of puerperal pyrexia were notified, as
compared with 35 in 1952. 6 of these did not belong to the Borough
but had been admitted from other areas to the local hospital.
The definition of puerperal pyrexia for notification purposes is
"any febrile condition occurring in a woman in whom a temperature of
100.4degrees Fahrenheit (38degrees Centigrade) or more has occurred
within fourteen days after childbirth or miscarriage".
