During the year 35 cases of puerperal pyrexia were notified, as
compared with 21 in 1951. 27 of these did not belong to the Borough
but had been admitted from other areas to the local hospital.
The increase in this figure is likely to be mainly due to the
operation of the new Puerperal Pyrexia Regulations in that while
formerly a rise of temperature occurring within fourteen days of
childbirth did not require to be notified unless it persisted for 24
hours, it is now necessary to notify pyrexia if it occurs at all.
1 maternal death occurred following abortion.
