GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES IN THE
BOROUGH.
Civil Ambulance Service.
Under the provisions of the National Health Service Act,
1946, the ambulance service, consisting of three ambulances,
manned day and night by eight driver-attendants, working on
24-hour shifts, was transferred to the Middlesex County Council
on the 5th July, 1948.
A satisfactory service is being maintained in the Borough.
The following are details of work performed by Borough
Ambulances during the period 1st January to 4th July, 1948.

During the year 15 cases of puerperal pyrexia were notified ;
there were no maternal deaths. Twelve of the cases occurred in
institutions, eight of whom were residents of other boroughs who
had been admitted to Chiswick Maternity Hospital.
