The Hospital has been an approved training school for just
over ten years, the date of the first examination at which pupils
from the hospital entered being May, 1926. During this period
172 pupils completed their training and entered for the examination,
166 being successful at the first attempt. Of the six who failed,
four were successful at a subsequent examination, leaving only
two pupils who failed to obtain a certificate entitling them to
practise midwifery.

The patients spent 8,116 days in hospital, which makes the
gross cost of each patient per day 14/4½ or £5 Os. 8d. per week,
and the net cost, after deducting the amounts paid by the patients,
8/8¾ per day, or £3 ls. Id. per week. With the patient
days 8,116 and the staff days 8,387, or a total of 16,503, the average
cost of food for patients and staff is 1/3¼ per person per day.
