Representatives of the Company met the Public Health
Committee with regard to the matter and gave an undertaking
to investigate the matter fully and to carry out experiments
to overcome the difficulties presented. The results of these
experiments are not yet available.
The smell arising from green gas escaping from the charging
floors above the retort chambers still gives rise to complaint,
but the smoke nuisance appears to be definitely overcome.
6. Schools.
The general hygiene and sanitation of the schools
throughout the area is very good and is dealt with in my Report
on the School Medical Service on page 60 as also is any action
necessary in relation to the health of the scholars and for
preventing the spread of infectious disease.
It was not found necessary to close any school, either
elementary or private, with a view to preventing the spread of
infectious disease.
