CHISWICK URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL.
Public Health Department,
Town Hall, Chiswick, W. 4.
To the Chairman and Members of the
Chiswick Urban District Council.
Gentlemen,
I beg to submit for your consideration my Annual
Report for the year 1925.
In accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of
Health, the report not only deals with the administrative
work of the Public Health Service for the past year, but also
attempts to indicate the development and progress of that
work during the past five years. Similarly, it contains
information and deals with subjects not contained in the
ordinary Annual Reports of that period. For certain of this
information I am indebted to the other Chief Officials of the
Council, viz. : Mr. Willis, the Surveyor ; Mr. Abbott, the
Engineer to the Sewage Works ; and Mr. Lea, the Accountant.
During the period above referred to, many street and
other improvements have been carried out by the Council,
among which may be mentioned the building of the Public
Baths and Wash-houses, the Public Convenience for ladies,
and the acquisition, development and opening up of the
River Side Lands, as an additional Open Space. More
intimately connected with the work of this Department, was
the removal of the Offices to the present commodious buildings
which enabled the centralization of all the Clinics in the
building, thus greatly facilitating the work. In addition, the
Maternity Hospital was established, and the Day Nursery
taken over.
A "Health Week" was celebrated in October of 1925,
when the whole of the Clinics, together with the works under
the control of the Council, were thrown open for inspection,
and those Rate-payers who availed themselves of the opportunity
were enabled to gain some idea of the administrative
gervices of the district.
