Special.
(a) Goitre.—Particular observations were made of all
children aged 13 years or more with respect to any enlargement
of the Thyroid. No enlargement of this gland was found
in any boy, but of the 274 girls (aged 12-13 years) examined
at Routine Inspections, 15 were seen to have definitely large
thyroids. In no girl was there any evidence that the general
health was affected by the enlargement, and heart, eyes and
nervous systems were normal.
In addition to the above, six girls were seen at Special
Inspections with enlargement of the Thyroid. Four of them
had no symptoms that could be attributed to this condition.
