Housing Repairs
House-to-House inspections were continued and notices
served where necessary to remedy defects. Quite a fair
proportion of the older houses visited were found to be
owner-occupied. In such cases inspections were not made.
Appeals lodged in 1959 against formal notices served
under the Housing Act, 1957 were heard early in the year.
The appellants did not proceed with their contention that the
premises were unfit but contested as unreasonable and excessive
the Council's requirements in connection with dampness
and pointing of brickwork. Both sides agreeing, the Judge
appointed a referee to report on certain items and subsequently
made an Order adopting the report and requiring
the works to be completed in six months.
An appeal against a similar notice by another owner
was subsequently withdrawn.
