Welfare Services
The Chief Welfare Officer, Mr. J. L. Stoker, reports:—
WELFARE OF THE AGED
It is desirable that aged persons should be able to maintain independence in their own homes as
long as possible, and for this reason the domiciliary services are provided. In this connection great
assistance is given by voluntary organisations, including the four Old People's Welfare Associations,
which are supported financially by the Council. (£10,217 in the financial year 1967/68).
The services provided by these associations include:—
Elm Park and Tudor Dining and Recreation Visiting service.
Clubs, Ruislip. Christmas parcels.
Fassnidge Hall Social Centre, Uxbridge—
light meals provided. Holidays.
Chiropody. Outings.
Meals on Wheels. Hairdressing at reduced prices.
Much assistance has also been given by the British Red Cross Society and the Women's Royal
Voluntary Service in running clubs and providing meals on wheels.
Other voluntary organisations such as Rotary Clubs, Round Table and Toc H have given valuable
support.
The Welfare staff have made 1,164 visits to aged persons living in their own homes. Most of these
visits were made with a view to the provision at a later date of residential accommodation.
