VACCINATION AGAINST SMALLPOX
Vaccination against smallpox is performed on request, without charge, by doctors who have
signified their willingness to carry out this work under the National Health Service Act, 1946. In
addition, in certain cases, vaccination can be carried out at the Council's clinics. The vaccination of all
healthy infants is recommended.

During the year the following vaccinations of children were undertaken:—

Vaccination at Heathrow Airport
In 1967, 8,136 adult persons were vaccinated at the airport. Not all these vaccinations were performed
on arriving passengers, as in certain circumstances it was necessary to vaccinate outgoing
passengers.
Vaccination against Measles
As stated in the report for 1966, vaccination against measles was strongly recommended for
children attending day nurseries. This recommendation has been accepted readily and children were
vaccinated by their family doctors or the borough's medical officers.
The numbers of children vaccinated were:—
1967 26
1966 127
No untoward effects have been reported and it was not necessary to close any of the nurseries
during an epidemic.
