housing defects, not much is possible in the way of comprehensive repair. Until it is possible to secure
the proper repair of tenanted dwellings there will continue to be a wastage which will have to be dealt
with eventually by Clearance.
When the present programme of slum clearance is completed, it is hoped that it will be possible
to concentrate on the repair of tenanted dwellings by operating the repair provisions of the Housing
Act, 1957.
The following table shows action that has been taken by formal and informal action to secure the
repair of dwelling houses.

Demolition and Closure of Unfit Houses
Three houses were reported to the Council as being unfit for human habitation and not repairable
at reasonable expense. As these properties were adjoining fit houses it was not possible to demolish
them, and Closing Orders were made. Nine houses were demolished as the result of action taken in 1965.
