HOUSING ALLOCATION—MEDICAL GROUNDS
The Council's Housing points scheme allows for points to be awarded in relation to the chronic
illness, disability or infection affecting an applicant or member of his family or occupant of the
dwelling in which he resides, and in respect of which a doctor's certificate is submitted. On the
recommendation of the Medical Officer of Health, and subject to the confirmation of the Housing
Committee, 5, 10 or 15 points may be awarded.
In many instances there is consultation with the private doctor or hospital concerned, together
with reports from the appropriate officers of the Health and Welfare Department, and only after
very careful consideration of the medical, housing and social factors involved is a recommendation
made.
Applications for transfer from one Council property to another, which are supported by medical
evidence, are also referred to the Medical Officer of Health.
From the 1st April, 1965 to the end of the year, the following cases were dealt with:
No. of Cases Referred | Recommendations made for 'Medical' points | |
---|---|---|
New Applications | 118 | 31 |
Transfers: | 60 | 34 |
