The death of Mr. H. J. Pugh, your Chief Administrative Officer, was a grievous and
sad loss. Horace Pugh was a wise counsellor and loyal friend to all members of the health
department. His contribution to the health of Teddington, Twickenham, and Richmond
upon Thames over four decades will never be adequately assessed. It was an honour and
pleasure to have known H. J. Pugh.
Grateful acknowledgment is made to the following for their co-operation and collaboration
in the field of community medicine pertaining to, and in the service of, the
residents of Richmond upon Thames:—
The family doctors;
All hospital staff;
All voluntary services;
The Chief Officers.
The staff of the health department have worked hard. I would especially thank Dr.
Marguerite James, Mr. E. S. Herbert and Mr. D. J. Legge.
I conclude by thanking the Health and Education Committees and their respective
Chairmen involved for their encouragement.
I am,
Yours respectfully,
A. M. NELSON,
Medical Officer of Health and
Principal School Medical Officer.
