ARTIFICIAL DIALYSIS
The Council continued to adapt the homes of patients referred by various hospitals
for home dialysis purposes. Arrangements were made, with the co-operation of the
Borough Engineer and Surveyor, for two premises to be suitably equipped during 1972
and, in one case, a Portakabin unit was supplied as no room was available for adaptation.
Patients were assessed by the Borough Treasurer and required to pay a contribution
towards costs although one patient received a nil assesment. The Council had, by 31st
December, 1972, adapted eight premises for this purpose and the maximum individual
cost was £2,000.
