The total number of cases on the register at the end of the year was:
Pulmonary 1128
Non-pulmonary 180
As may be seen from the Registrar General's official return there were 4 deaths
from tuberculosis of the respiratory system and no deaths from non-respiratory tuberculosis
in 1972.
The Borough was again well served by the Chest Clinics of Ashford, Hounslow,
Kingston, and the ad hoc clinic at the Richmond Royal Hospital.
The following comments have been received from
(a) Dr. P. E. Baldry, Consultant Physician, Ashford Chest Clinic:—
'I am gratified to note that we have only had four new cases of tuberculosis in
your Borough during the past year and would say how pleased I am that the control
of tuberculosis would appear to be maintained.'
(b) Dr. C. O. Edwards, Consultant Physician, Kingston Chest Clinic:—
'We have notified the same number of cases in the last year as in the previous
year. There is, therefore, still a reservoir of infection in the area, as in all other areas,
and we must continue vigilance for some years to come, before this disease will be
finally eradicated.'
(c) Dr. D. Mcintosh, Chest Physician, Hounslow Chest Clinic:—
'As compared with 1971 there has been a further slight increase in the total
number of notifications of tuberculosis in the area. In the main these are predominantly
pulmonary infections occurring in the indigenous population.'
