The number of notifications received during the year compared with 1971 may be summarised as follows:—

The table on page 15 gives the number of cases notified under age groups.
Whooping Cough.
There was a significant drop in the number of cases notified, 5 in 1972 as compared
with 24 in 1971. Of the 5 cases, all are recorded as having been immunised and in one
case a booster dose had been given.
Measles.
As can be seen from the histogram on page 12 the incidence of this disease has again
been reduced since the programme of immunisation was commenced in the autumn of
1966.
Nevertheless 161 cases were notified during the year and we should continue to
encourage parents to have their children immunised in an effort to reduce the number
of cases still further.
