The irregular samples are referred to below:—
(a) in this group are those samples reported to be irregular because
the label did not specify the ingredients of the product as
required by the Labelling of Food Order, 1953; in every case
correspondence with the retailer and the manufacturer or
importer resulted in an undertaking being given that the
labelling of unsold stocks and of future consignments would be
correctly amended:
Sample 11: Sardines.
„ 21: Fried Bumble-bees.
„ 22: Roasted Caterpillars.
„ 43: Stuffed Aubergines.
,, 45: Mushrooms.
„ 64: Dairy Nut Crunch.
„ 88: Red Cabbage.
„ 112: Cucumbers in Vinegar.
(b) a further group of samples proved to be irregular because the
description of the product was misleading or because the product
was not of the standard prescribed by statute; in these cases
undertakings were given that the correct description would be
used in future or that the statutory standard would be complied
with:
Sample 3: Steak Pie— description changed to Meat Pie.
Sample 10: Corolac— description altered so as not to include a
reference to "cream".
Sample 23: Cream Powder— marketing of product discontinued.
Sample 24: Cheese Spread with Caviar— description changed to
Cheese Spread with Mock Caviar.
Sample 35: Birchermuesli— undertaking given to omit claim
that product is non-fattening.
Sample 99: Chocolate Cream Pie— description changed to Chocolate
Whip Pie.
Sample 105: Pick-Ups— description changed to Cocktail Sausages.
Sample 122: Sunflower Oil— lacking in vitamin E. and withdrawn
from sale.
Sample 124: Hot Roll Mix— marketing of product discontinued.
Sample 126: Paprikaschoten— description changed to Red Pep'
