5. Housing Act, 1936: Unfit Houses.
During the year a group of 8 almshouses was inspected and
represented for action under Section 25, Housing Act, 1936. A
Clearance Order in respect of these properties was made by the
Council in February, and was confirmed by the Minister in October.
The demolition of these houses had not been started by the end of
the year.
Two individual unfit houses were inspected during the year. In
one instance the owner voluntarily demolished the property and
cleared the site without recourse to statutory action, and in the other
instance the owners voluntarily undertook not to allow the property
to be used for human habitation.
