FOOD INSPECTION.

The following foodstuffs, found to be unfit for human consumption, were surrendered by the owners and either salvaged for animal food or destroyed. .

INSPECTIONS OF FOOD PREMISES.
Inspection of Food Premises has been steadily maintained
throughout the year, a total of 592 visits being made.
As a result of such visits the following improvements have been
carried out:—
Cleansing, repair and redecoration 10 premises
Additional Sanitary accommodation 2 „
Improvement of existing Sanitary accommodation 4 „
Hot Water supply installed 2 „
Washing (staff) facilities improved 2 „
Drainage improvements 4 „
In no case was it necessary to serve Statutory Notice under the
provisions of Section 13 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938 for improvement
of the premises.
PROSECUTIONS.
Two complaints were made by residents to the Department of
(a) the finding of a nail in a brown loaf of bread, (b) finding of
quantities of a black substance in a white loaf of bread. Investigations
of these complaints were made and details submitted to the Health
Committee who recommended the Council to take proceedings under
the provisions of Section 3 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938 (Sale
of an article to the prejudice of the purchaser and not of the nature,
substance or quality demanded).
