During late 1949 and early 1950 the new owner decided to
reconstruct the premises for his own use and carried out extensive
alterations and repairs which had the effect of once more rendering
the cottage fit for human habitation.
A report was made to the Health Committee as to the extent
of the work done and that the cottage was now entirely suitable
for re-occupation and the resolution of the Council dated the 29th
May, 1941 was accordingly withdrawn on the 2nd May, 1950.
Nos. 1 & 2, Cedar Lodge.
These two cottages were also at the end of their useful life
and following a survey in 1949 it was felt the only way of dealing
with them was by their total demolition.
This area was later acquired by the Council for rehousing
purposes and in April of this year the tenants were rehoused and
the houses demolished.
Rent & Mortgage (Interest Restrictions) Act, 1920-1939.
An application was made by the tenant of a self-contained flat
for a Certificate under the provisions of the above Act to enable
him to suspend payment of the increase of rent on the grounds that
the premises were not in a reasonable state of repair.
An inspection of the premises was made and the application
found to be justified and the Council accordingly agreed to the issue
of the necessary Certificate.
The work was later carried out by the owner.
