The total costs recovered from the disinfection and disinfestation
of rooms during the year amount to £17 6s. 3d.
DESTRUCTION OF INSECT PESTS IN THE HOME.
As the insecticide D.D.T. was fully described in the last
Report, it is desirable briefly to record some of the experiences
of the department in its use during 1946.
Bugs: There were not a great number of instances of
bug infestation in the borough. The cases which did occur
were all dealt with by spraying the walls, furniture and bedsteads
in the infested premises with a 5% solution of D.D.T.
in kerosene.
Results obtained were satisfactory but certain factors
have to be watched. Initially there is normally a large kill
and conditions are greatly improved. However, the spray
