debility. These increases are not of great significance since the
number concerned is small. It is satisfactory to record that there
were no maternal deaths and no death from any infectious disease
other than influenza.
Infectious Diseases
In almost every case the incidence of infectious diseases
in Richmond compares very favourably with other towns and the
county as a whole.
There were three cases of Typhoid Fever but these were
almost certainly contracted outside the Borough and there was no
spread of the infection.
There was not a single case of diphtheria; due, no doubt,
to the immunity of the population which has resulted from the
successful Diphtheria Immunization Campaign which has been
conducted since 1934.
