Miscellaneous.
Employment of Children. Bye-laws under the Employment
of Children Act, 1903, have been adopted by the Education Committee,
and children attending school who wish to obtain employment
(part-time) must be examined as to their fitness by the School Medical
Officer.
Before the examination the Head Teachers concerned are asked
to give their views as to the prejudicial eifect of the proposed employment
on the children's education.
During the year 3 girls and 84 boys have been examined in
connection with medical certification as to their fitness for employment.
83 certificates were granted.
Of the 83 children granted certificates, 51 were employed in
the delivery of newspaprs and 32 as errand boys.
