Miscellaneous.
Employment of Children. Bye-laws under the Employment
of Children Act, 1903, have been adopted by the Education Committee,
and children attending school who wish to obtain employment
(part-time) must be examined as to their fitness by the School Medical
Officer.
Before the examination the Head Teachers concerned are asked
to give their views as to the prejudicial effect of the proposed employment
on the children's education.
During the year 27 boys have been examined in connection
with medical certification as to their fitness for employment.
22 certificates were granted.
Of the 22 children granted certificates, 15 were employed in
the delivery of newspapers and 7 as errand boys.

One certificate was granted to a girl under the above Rules.
