To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Borough of Richmond (Surrey).
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report on the health
and sanitary condition of the Borough during the year ended December
31st, 1938.
The Report is drawn up according to the directions contained
in circular 1728 issued by the Ministry of Health in October, 1938,
and is what is known as an Ordinary Report.
The Birth Rate throughout England and Wales for 1938 is
15.1 while the rate in Richmond is only 10.9 per 1,000 of the
population.
The Death Rate for the Borough is 10.7 per 1,000 of the
population, while this year's rate for England and Wales is 11.6.
The Infantile Mortality Rate is 55 per 1,000 births, compared
with 53 per 1,000 births in England and Wales.
I take this opportunity to express my thanks to the Chief Sanitary
Inspector and the Staff of the Department for their work during the
year.
