The following articles found affected with disease were surrendered
for destruction:—
1 beast's liver (Tuberculosis)
2 beasts' livers (Distomatosis)
1 beast's liver (Fibrosis of Gland)
1 beast's lungs (Tuberculosis)
1 beast's kidney and skirt (Tuberculosis)
2 pigs' heads (Tuberculosis)
2 pigs' livers (Tuberculosis)
2 pigs' lungs (Tuberculosis)
2 pigs' mesenteris (Tuberculosis).
Three hundred and eighty-two visits have been made to the
Meat Shops or Stores and other premises where food is prepared or
exposed for sale.
The following article of unsound food was surrendered and
condemned:—
7 lbs. Haddock.
Bakehouses.
The number of bakehouses on the register at the end of the year
was 16, four of these being underground.
Frequent inspections of the bakehouses have been made during
the year.
Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops.
There are three cow-keepers and 35 dairymen and purveyors
of milk registered under the Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops Orders
within the Borough.
The dairies, cowsheds and milkshops have been kept under
supervision during the year and were generally found to be kept in
a satisfactory condition.
From the 1st April, 1938, the veterinary functions under the
Diseases of Animals Acts, 1894 to 1937 are discharged by Veterinary
Inspectors appointed by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
