the re-drainage of the premises. These plans received the approval
of the Health Committee and the owners are now endeavouring to
make arrangements for this work to be put into effect. The
estimated cost of the work is approximately £5,000.
Six new cases of overcrowding discovered during the year
occurred in five houses. Two of these, which occurred in one
house at 6, Jocelyn Road, were relieved by transferring the tenants
to vacant Council Dwellings.
Under Section 62 of the Housing Act, 1936, 40 certificates
with information with regard to 294 houses were supplied to
owners by the Health Department.
INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD
(A) Milk Supply.
Most of the milk supplied in the district is brought in from
country districts. There are, however, three dairy farmers who
keep their own cows in the Borough. The Veterinary Inspector
appointed by the Corporation has regularly inspected all cattle in
the District and has reported to the Health Committee each
month. In future this duty will be undertaken by County Council
Veterinary Inspectors.
All Dairies and Cowsheds are frequently inspected.
The Borough Council have granted licences to sell Tuberculin
Tested Milk to four firms in the Borough (comprising 10 premises)
and pasteurised Milk to six firms (comprising 19 premises).
They have also granted a Pasteurising Licence to one firm.
(B) Meat.
There is only one slaughter house in the Borough and this is
under constant supervision,
