Smoke Control Areas - Phased Programme
The following details summarise the programme and show the number
of Smoke Control Orders in operation. As a result of recent
instructions from the Ministry it has been necessary to revise the
phased programme. Orders confirmed after 31st December, 1963 will
be considerably more expensive and it has therefore been decided by
the Council to reduce the size of Area Number 4. The programme for
1965 onwards will be decided by the new Council for Waltham Forest.

The index at the end of my report shows the roads which are in

Daily volumetric readings of smoke and sulphur dioxide have been
taken and show a reduction in air pollution. This gives
encouragement to establishment of future Smoke Control Areas.
