Larkswood Swimming Pool
The pool was opened on the 11th May and closed on the 31st August, 1963.
The total attendance throughout the season was 124,672, the highest attendance
being on the 9th June when 9,046 persons were present.
Summaries of the total chlorine and alkalinity readings are forwarded
weekly to the Health Department by the Borough Engineer and Surveyor.
The Department has taken samples of water from the pool for chemical and
bacteriological examination and in all cases the results have been perfectly
satisfactory.
Sewerage and Sewage Disposal
The Borough Engineer and Surveyor has submitted the following report
"Sewerage
The sewerage system of the Borough continues to be
adequate and it is anticipated that part of the system
will be connected to the new gravity sewer to Deephams
towards the end of October, 1964 This connection will
eliminate the risk of flooding in the one isolated instance
where this is possible.
A certain amount of backing up of open water courses
due to the gratings of culverts being blocked by rubbish
thrown into the water course has taken place from time to
time. Provision has been made in estimates for the piping
in of the remaining water courses which are subject to this
kind of obstruction.
Sewage Disposal Works
The present surcharging of the works will be alleviated
by the connection referred to in the preceding paragraph and
this should improve the quality of the effluent. It is
expected that the whole of the sewage will be transferred to
the Edmonton Works of the Middlesex County Council before the
end of 1964.
In the meantime everything possible is being done to
ensure a good standard of purification."
