GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES IN THE AREA
(a) Laboratory Facilities
Pathological specimens from this district are examined at the
Pathological Departments of the St. Margaret's Hospital, Epping, the
Connaught Hospital, Walthamstow, and the Whipps Cross Hospital,
Leytonstone. Specimens may (by arrangement) also be left at the
Town Hall, Walthamstow, on weekdays before 2.30 p.m. for collection
and delivery to the Central Public Health Laboratory at Colindale.
(b) Ambulance Service
The Ambulance Service, maintained and controlled by the Essex
County Council, has a Divisional Ambulance Control office at Ilford.
All requests for free ambulance transport under Section 27 of the
National Health Service Act, 1946, should therefore be made to the
Divisional Ambulance Control, Aldborough Road, Ilford (Telephone No.
Goodmayes 2311).
The procedure for obtaining an ambulance in emergency is to
dial "999" on the telephone.
(c) Midwifery and Home Nursing Service
The Home Nursing Services are administered by the Essex County
Council. Maternity nursing and midwifery cases, in addition to a
large number of general nursing visits, have been undertaken.
