remarkably low as indicated in the following table. The item for repairs was larger than anticipated, but this was due to the fitting of additional seating accommodation for the orderlies.

Road gullies were cleansed by contract as in previous years,
those gullies in main roads being cleansed four times per year
and those in district roads twice per year.
The public sanitary conveniences were maintained in good
condition throughout the year, but wilful damage continued at the
three conveniences which have not full-time attendants. The hours
of opening at the South Chingford Public Convenience were extended
during the year to 11.30 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays and until
mid-night on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
