35.
immunisation against whooping cough to be available at the clinics
in the borough.
We now have an immunising agent of proved value and so it is
hoped that in the course of the next few years the incidence of
this disease will fall appreciably. The response by the parents
has been most encouraging: 168 children were immunised at the
Council's clinics during the year.
Acute Poliomyelitis
Six cases of poliomyelitis were notified and confirmed during
the year. Four of these were paralytic and two non-paralytic.
None of the four paralytic cases was left with any serious degree
of paralysis.
Tuberculosis
The incidence of fresh cases of tuberculosis continues to
fluctuate within fairly narrow limits; there were 44 notifications
during the year. In addition, 22 persons who were already known
cases of tuberculosis in other areas, came to reside in the borough.
