Section B.— GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES
IN THE AREA
(a) Laboratory Facilities.
Pathological specimens from this district are examined at the
Pathological Department of the St. Margaret's Hospital at Epping.
The Pathologist has kindly supplied me with the following figures
of specimens from Chingford examined during the year :—

Number of specimens examined for the Chingford Isolation
Hospital (to March, 1950) 94
(b) Ambulance Service.
The Ambulance Service, maintained and controlled by the
Essex County Council, has an Ambulance Station situated at the
Fire Station, Town Hall, The Ridgeway, Chingford, which serves
this area. The Station is manned continuously; the telephone
number being Silverthorn 6856.
The general procedure for obtaining an ambulance in emergency
is as follows :—
Where there is a dialling system in operation in the Chingford
area, dial " 999."
Where there is no dialling system, lift receiver and ask for an
ambulance.
(c) Midwifery and Home Nursing Service.
The Chingford District Nursing Association has carried on its
good work throughout the year. Maternity nursing and midwifery
cases, in addition to a large number of general nursing visits, have
been undertaken.
