supervise the production of milk was, in my opinion, a retrograde
step. It is freely admitted that there is not available
adequate trained personnel to do the work efficiently. Further,
ualess a sample reveals that milk from an undesignated herd
is below standard, the premises concerned are unlikely to
ever again be inspected.
Essex County Council Act, 1933.
(Ice Cream Regulations).
Number of persons registered as manufacturers
and vendors 9
Number of persons registered as vendors only 60
The number of vendors continues to increase year by
year. Fortunately, the Ice Cream (Heat Treatment) Regulalations,
1947, have deterred these vendors from becoming
manufacturers and they obtain their supplies from manufacturers
who comply with the requirements of the Regulations.
Of the nine manufacturers licensed, only two in fact do
manufacture. Samples obtained during the year were reported
upon satisfactorily.
Twentv-six persons were stopped selling ice cream in
the area during the year, as they were not registered under
the Act. A number of them subsequently made application
and were accordingly registered.
Meat and other Foods.
A cattle market and a general market are held on
Tuesday of each week, where the sale of food is supervised.
The practice of washing and disinfecting vehicles conveying
livestock to and from the market was effected during
the year as required by the Transit of Animals (Amendment)
Act, 1931.
