damage to health (and to the reputation of the tradesman
concerned) is done ! It was with the object of preventing
such occurrences that the Hygienic Food Traders' Guild was
inaugurated last year under the Council's sponsorship as a
medium for bringing the latest and best methods of hygienic
technique to the notice of the tradespeople, and discussing
their difficulties and problems together. The response of. the
tradespeople and the interest of the public in this scheme (in
Waltham Holy Cross District) has so far been disappointing,
and it would be a pity if, as so often has happened with
similar projects in the past, the occurrence of a tragedy must
be awaited before business and public opinion is sufficiently
stirred to insist on preventive action.
In concluding, I would again like to record my appreciation
to the staff of the Public Health Department for their.
continued help and co-operation, and the Chairman and
Members of the Public Health Committee for their support
during the year.
